  2. I find it interesting that one of Amira’s best friends is not a child, but an adult. She even said
“One of my best friends is Hussein. He was my dad’s jeep driver for many years until he had a stroke.”
It’s interesting to me that a child of Amira Mortenson’s age is best friends with an adult, instead of a child her own age.

  3. 1) What I found interesting was that Amira didn’t want to look more important than the other kids in Pakistan when she visited. She wanted to show respect to the women of Pakistan so she wore their school uniforms. She showed the kids in Korphe that she wasn’t more important than they were.
    2) I wouldn’t like to trade experiences with her because I like my life. Even though I would like to travel, I want to do It when I’m older and when I have my own job and money so I don’t have to depend on my parents. I also wouldn’t like the fact that my father is in another country because I’m really attached to him and I wouldn’t like being away from him.

  4. 1. i find it most interesting that amira mortensen accepts the way of life of the people in pakistan. she dresses in the traditional ways of the people and she also eats the traditional foods.

    2. i think i might consider trading her experiences because i would get to learn how people in the middle east live despite the war. it would be interesting learn their traditions and their ways of life.

  5. i disagree with maria's comment because the middle east is not only made up of terrorists, but there are also people who are falsely accused of terrorism when they are kind and welcome outsiders into their homes for cups of tea. like Haji Ali who welcomes greg mortensen into his home even though greg is an outsider.

  6. I would yet I wouldn't want to trade places with her. I would because of what she and her father have done for the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Also, because she gets to give her father ideas of what should and needs to be done to make their lives better. In one of her questions it said that some of the improvements were her ideas. I wouldn't because in some of her answers she mentioned being sad and missing her Dad a lot when he was gone and she couldn't go with him. I like the fact that I am able to see my Dad every night.

  7. 1) What I found interesting about her relationship with the people of Pakistan is when she is visiting Pakistan she doesn't act American, she acts Pakistani. She wears the traditional clothing and eats the traditional food. She does this to show respect to them and to show them she is not more important than them.

    2) I think it would be interesting to trade experiances with her. I would be able to better understand the way people live in the Middle East. It would also be interesting to experiance the different culture they have compared to the United States.

  8. 1) I like how Amira admits she's not better than the Pakistan children. She respects their culture and doesn't act better than them. She dresses the way the Pakistan people dress and listens to the children. She tries to be the children's friend.

  9. What I found most interesting regarding Amira’s relationships with the people of Pakistan is she is friends with her father’s jeep driver Hussein just like Emilee said. I also thought it was very respectful of her that she didn’t want the kids in Pakistan thinking that she was more important. She also showed respect by wearing the traditional school uniform given to the children for school. I love to trade experiences with Amira Mortensen because I would love to go see Pakistan and be able to learn their culture. I also think it would be awesome to sit in on a school day to see what theirs is like and compare it to our school day. The only part I wouldn’t like is being away from my dad for a long time, especially when he is on the other side of the world.

  10. 2) Yes. I think it would be very interesting to travel to Pakistan. I would like to meet the children and see the schools they are attending. It's one thing to read about the struggles being faced by the Pakistan children and villagers, it's another to actually experience them. I would like to live a day in the life of Pakistan children; do what they do, play what they play and so on. It would be very interesting.

  11. 1)Amira's relationships with the people of Pakistan is interesting. The first time she went to Pakistan was when she was 8 months old. The people of korphe are like her second family and Korphe is like her second home. The people of Korphe have watched her grow up over the years, so to them she is like family. Amira has grown up learning 2 totally different cultures. When she is in Pakistan she wears the traditional clothing that the girls have to wear.
2)I would want to trade experiences with Amira. Just to see the region and learn about the culture would be so interesting. But at the same time I would not want to trade experiences with her. It would be scary to travel and not know if the Taliban were going to attack while you were their.

  12. Maria had a comment that I felt was deeply inaccurate. As the book states, the majority of Pakistan and Afghanistan are not made up of terrorists. But I would not particularly like to trade experiences with her, because I have had a few tragedies and car accidents and such (mostly my limp), and that she can do much more for those people than I could ever wish to do.

  13. I agree with Theresa and disagree with Maria. I agree with Theresa about what was most intersting regarding Amira Mortenson's relationship with the people of Pakistan. She would go there and she didn't want to be treated differently from the other women and girls. She wanted the villagers to know that she wasn't any different from them just because she was from America. She is just like the next person whether they are rich or poor. It doesn't matter to her because she is just human like you and me.
I would love to trade experiances with her because this is a new adventure just waiting to happen. This is a way to make a difference in the world, even if it is with a penny. This is where I disagree with Maria. The middle east isn't made up only with terrorists. In fact, the middle east is made up with people who are trying to survive and who are, as Courtney said, "...Falsely accused of terrorisn with they are kind and welcome outsiders into their homes for cups of tea like like Haji Ali."

  14. What I find most in interesting is that, like what Maria said "that she got to meet new people", and that Amira has insight into the region, the people, their customs and way of life.

In regards to the second question, I would trade experiences with her any time. I would want to because I have always been interested in other cultures and ways of life.

  15. 1.I think that it is interesting that Amira has different friends than just children; she had her dad’s old jeep driver that got him places. She was friends with Hussein for a long time until he had a stroke.

    2.I would and wouldn’t like to trade places with Amira. I would because she is being able to go to an amazing place with some nice and some mean people. I wouldn’t like to trade places with Amira because before she went to Pakistan her dad was always gone, and she didn’t get to spend that much time with him. I like to spend as much time as I can with family!!! =}=}

  16. I found it interesting that Amira wanted to dress, act and eat like those in Pakistan. Also I find it weird that one of her friends is an adult along with his six kids. I thought it was nice of her to not want to be treated any higher than the other girls in Pakistan.
I wouldn't want to trade places with Amira because I wouldn't like having my dad gone almost all the time. I also wouldn't like not knowing where exactly he is and knowing that he could be in danger. Another reason I wouldn't want to trade places with her is because I wouldn't like seeing all the kids and people helpless with not much to live on.

  17. if i traveled to pakistan then i would want to do the things Greg was doing to help out the children. i would do as much as i can to pride a educated for the children, and make thier lives much easier. to give them proper food and clothing, give the children less chores and allow them to be children, and provide many opportuniities like Amira did.

  18. 1) I love that she got to meet all those new people. I also, find it interesting that she wanted to fit in with the girls, so she wore their traditional clothing and covered her hair. Some of the people she gets to meet are so unique and genuine. They are probably very kind and treat her family with the up most respect.
    2) I would like to go over there and visit some of the schools like she has. But, I would not want to have my father gone as much as her's is. Also, I would miss the normal school life. I do though think it would be a great adventure to visit the CIA’s projects in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Also, to see how different their culture is from ours. Honestly, I am not sure if I would want to trade experiences or not.

  19. I think Amira is very humble about her life in the U.S. when she visits Pakistan. I agree with Olivia; I like how she says she doesn't want the Pakistani girls to think she is better than her. Also, I like how she is honest about how she feels when her dad is gone. Some might say that they don't mind, to please their parent, however Amira stated that she doesn't like it at all when her dad is gone.
I wouldn't want to have my dad gone all the time like Amira, but I am sort of interested in traveling to Pakistan to see what she has seen, for myself. I would also very much like to meet Amira, because she seems like such a great person to be around.

  20. I don’t really agree with Maria. I think the main point of the book was to open our vision to more than what we see here, and realize that they are not all terrorist’s and there are other people over there who need help and deserve it. I would like to step in amira's shoes I think it would be an amazing experience. I agree with some of Calie’s but I mean I wouldn’t want to go in there like the boss and mess with there ways of life and culture. I would have to be completely immersed and have a full understanding before I ever tried to change anything. I wouldn’t really want to change there food or clothing maybe give them more or what they wanted ,but there clothes and food are more of just what they were and what their traditions are and we should respect that. I do agree that we should give them the opportunity for opportunity in life.

  21. I also think what emilee said is verry intersting as well, and true.

  22. i agree with callie
i wouldlove to accomplish the things greg mortinson has accomplished.
He has done so many brillantthings for that country.
His daughter Amira has had so many oppertunities do things most kids would ever dream of beingable to do.

  23. I like that when Amira visits Pakistan, she dresses in the traditional clothing, and participates in their culture. I also agree with Olivia about how Amira knows that she is not better than the other kids just because she is American. I also find it interesting that Amira's best friend is her dad's jeep driver, who is an adult. I think that it is strange that her best friend in Pakistan is an adult not a child.
I would like to trade places with Amira, because she got travel and meet all those new and interesting people. She got to experience their culture and the hardships in their lives. I think that a day in the life of a child in Pakistan would be an amazing expereince.
I also agree woth what Anna said. That this book was made to open our eyes to the world around us, that not everybody gets enjoy the lives we do in the U.S. Also that the children in poor countries deserve an education just as much as we do.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree with Olivia that i think it's nice that Amira doesn't think that she is better than the other children in Pakistan.
I would love to talk to Amira and see what her perspective is on these children. I mean who can better relate to children than children.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Anna. I don't agree with Maria's answer because I think that the point of the book was to open our eyes and show that not all of them are terrorists and to show that they are people just like us. I also think it was to show that they don't live the same lifestyle as us, and to show what they go through. I would love to step into Amira's shoes and try the experiences she has had. I think it would be amazing to see what life is like in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Also to see their customs, traditions, and lifestyle and compare it to our own, to show us what we take for granted over here and open our eyes more and realize how good of a life we live compared to them.

  26. (1. I aree with Katie C. I find it quite interesting that Amira dresses and participates in the cultures and beliefs or Pakistan. Also, Amira does not find herself better than anyone else in Pakistan, because she holds much respect towards them. I think that it is awkward that her best friend is not a child her age, but an adult; and on top of that it is Hussein, her father's jeep driver.
    (2. I would and also would not like to trade experiences with Amira. It would be nice to travel to another continent and witness with my own eyes where Greg Mortenson stayed, but also the conditions of life in Pakistan. However I would not like to trade experiences because with my luck, the day I arrived in Pakistan, there would be a terrorist attack.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I wouldn’t like to trade experiences with Amira Mortenson because I love the way my life is. Although I have one parent that is gone all the time almost like Amiras dad, my mom is not in danger of being captured or killed by terrorists or people that hate her. I also don't really want to travel (especially to the Middle East), I like where I live. I also wouldn't like all of the world attention, and I wouldn’t like a famous dad.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would like to trade places because I would like to meet the people of Korphe and be poud of her dad that he is making a diffence with education. But also no because I would worried all the time for her dad if he going to come back and have the emotion like her like does Greg care about his job more? I have these feelings before and it's very sad. Also I like that she helping with kids with their parents in a dangerous sition so kids don't feel alone.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I found most interesting is that she did not act like she normally would have back in America right down what she wears. What I mean from this is that she wore clothes that an average girl in Pakistan with the long dress and vial to cover her face and hair. I believe she did this to not only show respect but to fit in.
Yeah I would like to trade experiences with her just because I have never been out of this country (US) besides Canada. So I guess I know what the culture and climate would be like there but I would still like to see it up close and personal in person. I also think it would just be a great experience for me and an awesome story to tell people about.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I also agree with Tim and strongly disagree with Maria. I mean that is really shallow to say that there are a lot of terrorist in Pakistan. I mean how would you feel if the innocent people of Iraq would be saying that there are a lot of terrorist here. Lastly saying that there are a lot of terrorist in Pakistan to me is very false because was in the main idea that the Fort Drum troops talked about was that a large majority of the population are not terrorist in Pakistan.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1) I find it most interesting that she can fit in there as if she is family and no one would ever know the difference.

    2) The only way I would trade expeiriences with her is if my whole family came to, because I would miss them just like her.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Like somebody has already stated i found it very interesting that she wanted to fit in with the girls there so she wore what they wore and did the things they did. Also i strongly disagree with Maria. There may be war over there but there is good spots. Not everybody over there is a bad person just becuase we are at war with them. Going over there would be amazing for me and i would love to be in her position. It would open up peoples eyes more to whats going on in other parts of the world. People may complain here that they don't always get what they want but those people would love to have as much as we do here. If people were to go there i think it would make them realize that they should be thankful for what they have because they have much more than people do in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1. I think it's a great experience for her to have friends from Pakistan and to get to understand more about life and what its worth.

    2. I would like to trade experience with her because I would be happy to help the people in Pakistan who struggle everyday.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I strongly disagree with Maria vecchio when she says "no because there is lots of tarist over in Pakistan." On the other hand I strongly agree with Sara and Bryant because not all the people in Pakistan are tarist and it is very rude to call all the people that are very good to us tarist. And I aggress with Sara when she says that "Also most of the people who become terrorists only do it to survive because they are poor." They mostly are and they probably only do this because they want to start conflicts with us. I also agree with Bryant when he says “how would you feel if the innocent people of Iraq would be saying that there are a lot of terrorist here." to them we probably are the terrorist and they probably think that most of us need major help.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1) I think it is interesting that she adapted to their family as if it was her own.

    2) I also would only do the trip if I could take my family to share the experience with.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1.) I liked that Amira didn't want to feel more important then the kids in Pakistan and that she wanted to be treated the same. Also, she wore what they did, and did things that they did.

2.) Right now i would not like to trade places with her because i'm content with my life. But if I was older I think it would be very interesting and cool, and i'd be able to pay for it myself instead of my mom or dad or someone else pay for it, and when i'm older I would get more of their lifestyle and appreciate my life more once i got back, then i would if i went now.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1) I think that it was interesting that Amira doesn't want to show that she is better than the people in Pakistan. I think that showing that you’re not better than others is a good trait that will help you make friends because they will think that you are a respectable person.
    2) I would want to trade places with her because I think it would be a fun experience to meet a totally different culture and to see how they live. I think on the other hand it would be hard because most Americans are used to getting pretty much whatever they want and in Pakistan they don’t have cell phones, internet, and sometimes not even electricity (which in the U.S. we take for granted). Even though they live like that it seems they are more peaceful than the wealthy nation of the U.S. because there is no reason for violence in a small village like Korphe. It would be an interesting and fun experience (I think) to travel to Pakistan and go to a small village and live like the locals for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I learned that Amira thinks that she is not better than the people of Pakistan. When she goes to their villages she dresses traditionaly and follows there customs. She respects the villages just like her father, and she doesnt believe that they are bad people.

I would like to trade some of the experiences she had in Pakistan with the villagers of Korphe.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have to STONGLY DISAGREE with Maria!! Maria said "no because there are lots of terrorist over in Pakistan" No offence Maria (I let you have your own thought) but the majority of the people in the Middle East are NOT anti-American or terrorist. Abid Amiri said that only 5% of the people are anti-American so if the only reason you don’t want to go is because they are "terrorist" I think that it’s a bad reason. =]

  40. I think she seems like a very cool, confident, unselfish person. after going to Pakistan and experiencing the way they live, she seems really truly grateful for everything she has in her life, from her family to her home.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I found it very interesting that Amira wanted to dress, act and eat like the girls in Pakistan. Amira didn’t want to be treated any higher than any girls in Pakistan. I would like to trade places with her only if my parents were there also. However, I wouldn’t like to trade places with her because im petrified of airplanes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What I found most interesting was, she didn’t care what other people thought about her when she was walking around the town with them. She really didn’t care if people were to judge her or anything. I myself thought that was pretty neat.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would like to trade experiences with her so i could have an opportunity to help people, like the way she did.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think she seems like a very unselfish and kind person. After she visited Pakistan she seems like she wants to help the people over there that need her help and is proud and grateful for everything she has done in her life.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am glad that she did cot think that she was better than the kids and the people from Pakistan. Ithink that she is nice for wearing the traditional clothes in Korphe. She sang her song called three cups of tea and the people really liked that. I would like to trade some expiernces with Amira.

  46. I agree with Angel that Amira didn't want to be treated higherthan the girls in Pakistan. I would also want my parents to come with me to Korphe.
