  1. It made me feel that that that that that that that... *cough* ...unlike what some Americans think, the gross generalization that all Muslims are terrorists or "anti-American," the truth was really the opposite. So with all thhhhhhhhhhhhhe quotes and whatnot, it further fortified my newfound opinion (Not that I thought all Muslims, or everyone in the Middle East was a terrorist... ever.) in that the majority of Muslims aren't terrorists at all, but just exploited indidviduals struggling to survive and support their family.

  2. i agree with jacob also, many in our nation have come to know middle east citizens as terrorists. this is just false accusation, syed abbas has pointed out the fact that many in his area of the world are as kind and caring as us americans. this speech made me feel ashameed because americans have come to know middle east dwellers as war based crimnals.

  4. The speech made me realize that Greg didn’t care for himself but that he cared for the children the Afghanistan and Pakistan. He wanted to help the girls get a better education. He helped Mary Bono by giving her some supplies to give to the girls and to help her build a school by the border. The speech made me feel like that the Americans didn’t care about the children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

  5. It makes me feel like we didn’t care about anybody but us. People think that just because some of the people in the incident of the world trade center that all Muslims are bad, or terrorist. This is defiantly not the case. The Muslims want us to protect them don’t want to hurt as. There are many quotes that say that they want help form us.

  6. I hope that all people who baselessly think that all muslims are terrorists have decided to rethink their crooked beleifs against these wonderful, cutural, developed people. I am intent on agreeing with jacob because he really singles out the idea that Ameicans are wrong as a whole to generalize these people as "different". The only way they are different is their culture, which is really more rich than ours. Yes they house croked individuals like Osama Bin Ladin but everybody, don't think you don't, thinks of Osama Bin Ladin when they hear pakistan or Afghanistan. That's just crooked in itself. let's get some things straight. 9/11 was a horrible moment in our history that was caused by...well evil individuals. Women and children were killed innocently for no reason but to make a point. That time however, is long past and it is time to forgive those individuals of that country and turn our attention to our real enemy. Not Iraq, not Iran, Not even any country in particular, but the groups of people that wish us harm. Al Queida and the Taliban. Now that I'm done rambling off I think that it is time to talk about all the good in that country and that region of the world. They care about us, just look at Syed Abbas and all that he cares for us. I wish that our school could have witnessed that speech first hand. To all those who think they are bad people, you are gross generalizers and should go and visit their rich and wonderful culture in the Middle east. Without any more wait I submit my post.

  7. It made me feel sorry for them. They are getting the blame for the events of September 11, 2001 and they shouldn’t be. Our country has so much hate towards them for something that was out of their control. Also, I find it sad that we, as an army, were demolishing the villages in Pakistan, instead of rebuilding them to make a stronger better government that could avoid the Taliban. It made me mad that one of the Congress members couldn’t connect that educating the kids would help keep us secure. Congress was only thinking in the present and not in the future. Destroying the Islamic people’s homes would only make more people mad at us and cause more problems in the future.

  8. While I was reading Syed Abbas Rasvi's speech it made me feel like I really knew what was happening there. His quote and other peoples quotes really made me know that Muslims aren’t really bad people they are good people. With all the children and adults that are Muslims I feel bad for them because people think they’re bad and they aren’t they’re just try to help other people besides themselves.

  9. I agree with Dylan it made me feel that as well you know. We wanted to go to war with them so bad that we didn’t even think of what we were doing about this attack. All they wanted was to be friends not enemies. This speech made me very sad that all those people had died and we didn’t do any thing about it but go to war with Afghanistan and we killed more and MORE PEOPLE. It wasn’t our war to fight.

  10. Reading Syed Abbas Rasvi's speech made me feel that over here in America we think that all Muslims are terrorists when they really aren’t. Some of the Muslims over in Pakistan helping Greg Mortensen thought that the events of September 11th were wrong to do. If we new more about the Muslim life than we think we do then we would know that even though you are a Muslim you aren’t necessarily a terrorist. If we get the right education about the Muslim religion then I actually believe that some of the terrorist problems will be resolved because we won’t be blaming every Muslim for being a terrorist. In the adult version of Three Cups of Tea Syed Abbas quotes that "For this tragedy, I humbly ask Mr. George and Dr. Greg Sahib for their forgiveness. This shows that some Muslims care about the americans.

  11. During the time that I spent reading Syed Abbas Rasiv's speech, I got a fairly high quality understanding of life and how they felt. He brings up a very good point in saying that not all Muslims ideas and beliefs are the same. He said that the majority of Muslims were not terrorists. But that many Americans believed, and still do, that every single one of them, are and were terrorists. Even children as young as four. Rasvi's speech was touching, brilliant, and accurate. The Taliban put the people of Pakistan, and Afghanistan in a very tight position. The Taliban made the people choose between a very hard life, or terrorism. Greg and many others believe that education is the key for freedom of terrorism. Rasvi talks about all of these points in his speech, and I believe that it touched many people. He also talked about the thousands of people that had passed away in vain. This would make, I think, almost everybody drown their hearts in sorrow for the men and women and children that are certainly suffering over in the Middle East. It isn't our war and this speech could potentially be the main source of fuel for the rocket towards ending terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

  12. Syed’s speech was completely correct not all Muslims are terrorists we can’t blame the actions of the Taliban and Al Qida on the Muslim population most of them are honest hard working religious people.

  13. I believe that in these chapters and in the book in general I believe it is good to have many different cultures around the world. I agree with Anna in that many people believe Muslims are terrorists. Different ethnic groups change the world. If the world only consisted of one race or on type of religion it would be very boring.

  14. It made me relize that we Americans dont think about anyone but ourselves. Many of americans do belive that the Muslims are terrorists. I agree with Anna that people do need to open their eyes and relize we can learn from other cultures.

  15. After reading Syeds speech my opinions on Muslims are for the most part unchanged. I already know that they are not all terrorists that hate America. In fact most of them like America and its people. Most of the people that Greg meets in Pakistan are friendly to him and are very gratefull that he is bringing education to there communities.

  16. I agree with Dylan, People did think that a lot of Muslims are bad people, when really they are harmless. They are good strong, caring people.
It just makes me sick, thinking of why someone would ever want to do that to so many people, I mean what did they do to you, to make you want to do that?..It’s just pathetic.

  18. Chapter 19 recounts the events of September 11, 2001, and concludes with a speech by Muslim religious leader Syed Abbas Rasvi at a CAI school inauguration celebration. When reading Syed Abbas Rasvi's speach it made me happy because he said in his speach that, that day would be remembered forever, because the darkness of illiteracy and light of education shines bright. He also said that the majority of Muslims are not terrorist, but good simple people. It also made me happy knowing that even though the people who Greg was helping, bombed New York and Grege still wanted to help them because he thought that every one deserved an education. When reading I found other other quotations from people like when Greg said that if Muslims or anyone gets the right education then they can have the choice of being a student or becoming a terrorist. Whith an education then then they know more and they learn that they dont have to bomb or kill people and that its wrong.

  19. whenever people hear the name muslim, they think of "terrorist" but thats a lie. muslims are not terrorists. they are completely harmless. and when i read the speech given by Syed Abbas Razvi made me feel like he put is whole heart into the speech. he prayed that he wanted him to help Greg and George succeed in what they were ding, and to help them overcome thier obstacles.
"for this tragety, i humbly ask Mr.George and Dr.Greg Sahib for thier forgivness. all of you my brotheren:protect and embrace these two americansin our midst. let no harm come to them. share all you have to make thier mission sucessful." and then he finished the speech with "i request americans to look into our hearts." when i read this i was suprised on how they treated these two americans. and it made me feel like they meant what they said.

  20. I think that his speech was inspiring because people have different ways of livening that some people think that they are bad people or they are terrorists because they may be leave in something different. We should be trying to help other people in their times of need not trying to kill them or to be trying to get them to leave our country. I agree with Syed Abbas when he says "Americans look into our hearts, and see that the great majority of us are not terrorist, but good simple people". I think that with is a great thing to say because the majority of them are not but are just victims of the situation.

  21. Reading Syed Abbas speech proved everyone including me who believe that Muslims are only terrorist and can't be trusted. They belive in violance and they don't deserve United States help. But we are wrong they our king and welcoming. They one that our dangerous didn't got the rightful education and believe that U.S is dangerous and is the main target. But with the rightful education they will acomplish their dreams and soon will end violence. Also I am proud of Greg for standing up for them when U.S didn't know the truth about them. U.S blames and thinks that they are a threat to us and we only take the negative side of them then thinking why are they that way. They are that way cause they don't have their rightful education.

  22. I agree with Serena that Muslims aren't that bad and Syed Abbas taught what was really happen and I agree that we both feel bad for them cause U.S and people think their bad when they are trying to help others.

  23. I think Syed's speech is very eye-opening. He said that the U.S. should not think of all Muslims as terrorists. I really liked what Anna said about picking one wilted flower out of a field and thinking automatically that the rest will be wilted too. I think many people just associate all Muslims with Al Qaeda, or the Taliban, and that is the wrong attitude. Muslims have a culture, as do Americans, and that needs to be respected.
And yes, even in America, there are murderers, shoplifters, all sorts of criminals. However other countries still continue to trade with us and respect us. So why not Muslims? I'm sure that many Muslims are very proud to live where they do, despite the few bad apples among them. Do they still need respect? Absolutely.

  24. I believe that these speaches and quotes really help the idea that not all muslims are bad that some of them actually like and care about America and they are'nt all strapping bombs to their backs and killing our soldiers.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I also agree with Jacob. Alot of people think that all Muslims are terrorist but its thier way of life. Greg made a good point saying that if we build schools for them and give their children the education their parents they want them to. Muslims just wants whats best for their familys are Greg sees that. I think that he is right. If we build them the schools they diserve then they will be every so gratefull.

  26. Reading Syed's speech made me feel that us Americans are only looking at the Muslims on the outside instead of the inside. Many people see a Muslim and automatically think that they are out to get us. But really only certain groups, who don’t believe in us helping them to become stable, are after us. It also made me realize that they do appreciate what we are doing for them and that they are really trying to help themselves. A quotation that I found was very reassuring to our safety with Muslims was when Syed said “Those who have committed this evil to the innocent……..do not do so in the name of Islam.”It reassures me that the whole country is not against us and all of the Muslims are very angry and embarrassed at the doings of their fellow citizens.

  27. After I read Syed Abbas Rasvi’s speech, it showed me and proved that not all Muslims are terrorists. His speech also showed that although some people from his country did in fact cause 9-11, not everyone should be blamed for it (Afghanistan population) because not everyone agreed or liked it.
One quote I found interesting throughout the book but especially in chapter 19 was when Faisal Baig said, "Your problem in New York comes from there." Then later he says "From Osama." This quote surprised me because for one, it is true, but just that someone true to their country knowing who really is responsible for the bad name of Afghanistan and not afraid to tell Greg and people that he (Osama) is to blame. So I guess I found that surprising because not many people in Muslim cultures speak their mind because they do not have freedom of speech like we do.

  28. Syed Abbas’ speech was very nice. It made me realize that not all Muslims are bad. Most are nice people who take in strangers like they did for Greg. The speech by Abid Amiri also helped me realize that some terrorists are just men, trying to make enough money to support their families. Before I read that chapter I had an opinion that all or a vast majority of the Muslim culture were bad people, but now I see that most are just kind people looking for assistance. Syed Abbas was telling the people to be thankful for the school and for Greg with the CAI for helping building the schools. He also wants Americans to look at the Muslims and try to see who they are, not who and what some of their people are doing.

  29. Syed Abbas’ speech made me relize that Americans need to take a second look on Muslims. We only think of them as bad people but the truth is some of them might be nicer then some Americans. They help out strangers and other people when help is needed. In the US we sometimes forget to do these things where as it's first nature to them. Also, that terrorists don't mean to be bad they just need the money to help support their family.

  30. I agree with Katie. I think that the speeches after 9/11 really helped the Americans realize that not all of the Muslims are terrorists. But they are kind people who would give up a lot to help their families or even lost travelers such as Greg Mortenson. Syed Abbas speech was very eye opening for me and made me realize that the Muslims were people just like us and would give up anything for their families or friends.

  31. I agree with Katie C. Mulisms are people who do the same things we may do, like go to the the mall or hang out with friends and they are nice people. The only thing which makes them different from us, is the way they worship god. By praying five times a day and having different traditions. This may make us scared as Americans, because they are different and that some people of the same religion made some poor chioces.

  34. As I read the words of Syed Abbas Rasvi, I had a feeling of sadness and unhappiness. With the quotations of the book from Muslim leaders, and school children I felt that they were misunderstood by Americans. Also I felt reassured that we had nothing to worry about, about them attacking the US or them just not liking the US.

  36. I agree with Jacob. A lot of Americans do feel that all Muslims are terrorists. This is far from the truth. After reading the quotes from other people, it made me start thinking outside the box. To us Americans, this is one of the worst things a person can do.

  37. I agree with Theresa. Not all Muslims are terrists. Although the people who caused the twin towers incident were from his country, his speech shows that it wasn’t everyone’s fault. By haveing his people guard Mortenson and McCown showed that he was very sorry for what the terrist did. We can’t just go and blame the actions of the Taliban and Al Qida on the Muslim people. Most of the muslims are hard-working and honest people.

  38. I think that the only reason why the people who terrorized american soil is that they where un-educated and they did not know any better. But if they were educated they would be able to see the other options they had other than blowing themselves away for 79 virgins and rivers of milk and honey when they died.

  39. I agree with Jon. Not all Muslims are terrorist; they are just like any other people that may do some of the things just like we do. I also agree that the only main difference between us and Muslims is their religion, and most of their culture.

  40. I agree with Myra because just because one Muslim is a "terrorist" doesn't mean they all are. I don't think it's fair that all Muslim's are considered terrorists just because of some of their acts. Most people dislike Muslims because they see the news and other people are calling them terrorists and stuff. Plus some people dislike Muslims because of their culture and their religion.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with myra and eddie their right just becuse one muslim is considered a terrorist that doese not mean every body that is in the villages are the same as that one person and people should not dislike Muslims becuse their religion, and most of their culture.

  42. After reading the book I think much differently about Muslim people. Before I was unsure about them after the attack, but know after reading the book my outlook is changed. It shows how most Muslims are just trying to change their way of life.
