  1. I think when Mortensen wrote the word lost, he meant he was lost both physically, and mentally. Physically because he went down the wrong trail. Mentally because he was hungry, thirsty, tired, and very weakened.

  2. I think that Greg Mortenson was lost both physically and mentally. Physically because he didn't know were he was and mentally because he didn't have many valuable resources like shelter water food

  3. *Clearing of throat* At the beginning of the first chapter (first line specifically), it says that "Greg Mortensen was lost." This being the case I guess I'm supposed to answer. I think the author wrote this to state plainly the fact that he is lost, why else would someone put that? Anyway, that's what I would have put if I was an ignorant, unimaginitive fool. Hoping this isn't the case, I would actually answer by saying it means two things, or it is put in general reference of two things, one, actually being lost, and the second, being lost in a state of mind. Being lost in a state of mind, I mean that he was physically and mentally exhausted, but he also must be 'A might bewildered' from his being lost and that he was facing self condemnation for 'failing' to get to the top of K2.

  5. I think Mortensen wrote the word lost because he was physically lost. He can’t find his way back to the trail and that he is stuck there for the night. He kept taking the wrong turns on the trail and he never did see the trail the first time.

  6. I think he was physically lost because he took the wrong trail. This caused him to not go the write path so he could make it to the top of K2. I also do agree with what Justine and Nate said also.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with Emilee. Motensen was lost mentally because he was was weak, sick, hungry, and thirsty. But he was lost physically also. He got lost on K2 and spent a night on the mountain by himself.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I agree with what Emilee said about being lost because he didn't know the area and was worrying about food and drinking enough water.

  9. I think Greg Mortensen was lost physically and mentally. Physically because he had no idea were he was on the mountain because he lost the trail. I also think he was lost mentally because he was really out of it because of the air on the mountain can make you lightheaded and he might have not know what was actually going on.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think Mortensen meant that he could not find the trail. He was lost from his friends, wandering in the wilderness. He was spiritually challenged, to perservere and not lose hope.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with all of you on this, I think Mortensen was lost mentally because he was sick and didn't really know what he was going to do. And he was literally lost cause he couldn't find his partner or the trail he was supposed to be on.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think that the author could have meant it both ways. He didn't really know where he was. He also was tired, hungry, and the air pressure probably made him feel unsure.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think Justine also brought up a good point. Mortensen would keep getting lost. I believe he got off the trail twice, which would explain why the author said "Greg Mortensen was lost."

  14. I think that the author meant Greg Mortensen was lost both physically and emotionally. He was literally lost on the glacier because he took several wrong turns; but he was also lost emotionally. This is so because he felt it was a necessity to put his sister's necklace on the peak of K2. He needed to do this because he needed closure from his sister's passing. Greg Mortensen never really got his closure because he never made it to the peak, but after staying in Korphe, and deciding to build them a school he felt as though that is what his sister would have wanted him to do.

  15. I agree with what Justine said. Mortenson was lost physically because he did get lost more than once. Also he was lost mentally because his mind wasnt right like he was frozen and he didnt know what to do. He didnt have any food, water or shelter to help him think properly.

  16. When Greg Mortenson wrote that he was lost, I think he meant it in two ways. One way was that he was physically lost, he was on the wrong trail, alone and didn't know where he was.

The other way was that he was mentally lost, because he didnt know what to do, he had few supplies and was weak and tired.

  17. when Greg Mortenson wrote that he was lost. i think that he just whent up the wrong way of the mountain

  18. When Greg wrote that he was lost,i believe he waslost he didnt have alot of supplies didnt want to spend the night in the wild and all alone he was scared but he should have payed attention more.

  19. I think Mr. Mortensen was "lost" because he didn't quite know what to do, since he didn’t know where the trail was and he also had no food, water, or shelter.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think Greg was literally lost in the mountains.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i agree with nate. he was lost both mentally and physically because he was still in shock about his sister passing away, and he didnt know where he was when he was trying to go back down the mountain and he didnt have anything to eat drink or anything. He only had a blanket for shelter.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think Greg was lost physicaly and mentally.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I believe when Greg stated he was lost he meant it in two different ways. I think that he was lost physically in the woods and could not find a way out. Secondly I think the other interpretation of lost that he was getting at was that he couldn't mentally find an answer of what to do next.

    ReplyDelete
  24. When Greg wrote that he was lost, I think he meant that he was lost on the wrong trail on K2 and he was lost from everyone on the trip.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Erin about why the title was referred to as "Greg Mortensen was lost." Except that he was not just lost physically on K2 but to me he was also lost in his mind after not achieving his goal of placing his sister's necklace on top of K2. So he was also lost not knowing what to do after not reaching his ambition.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Greg Mortenson was lost physically, he had no idea where he was. When he lost both the trail and his sight of Mouzafer while hiking up k2.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with Erin, but he also mentally lost, because he must have been somewhat scared trying to survive on his own. But he did manage did manage to survive the night, in the bitter cold temperatures.

  28. In the beginning of the first chaper he wrote that he was lost because he was physically and mentally sick.

  29. I think when Mortenson wrote the word lost, he ment that he had no idea of where he was.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree with Erin when she says that Greg Mortensen was lost physically. He was physically lost because he took the wrong path and was heading the wrong direction. He was also lost physically because he was hungry, weak, worried about not being able to find his way back, and because he didn’t have a shelter to stay dry and warm under.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I argee with Kelly because the author could have meant that he was lost in both ways or just one.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with Holly because I believe he was physically lost and spiritually challenged, too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i agree with the people who said he was lost mentally and physcilly. This is because he was exploring a place he has never been before ,also when he got lost on the trail he had gotton off of. I think personlly he was also lost in his mind because he was still grieving about his sisters death.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with Emilee partly because i think he was lost physicly in going of the trail and i also think his mind and heart were lost. His mind beacuse he was tierd and in pain and hungry. Also lost in heart beacuse the main goal was to remember his sister by putting a necklace at the top of k2 witch he failed in doing.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Greg Mortenson was lost in more ways than one. Lost on the mountain, yes, but also lost for purpose. He had intended to place his sister's amber necklace at the summit of K2, but failed. Now he had no focus, and his life had no direction. This, of course, was about to change because he was about to discover the lack of schooling for the children of Pakistan.

    ReplyDelete
  36. When the book says that Mr. Mortenson was "lost", I believe it means that he was partly lost in his mind as well as his body. He did not know where he was, he had become very weak, he was unable to think straight, and he had been incapable of finding the trail for quite some time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. More or less I agree with Nate Miller. Yes he was lost physically: he coudn't find the trail. But to an extent he wasn't lost because of the lack of resources but the loss of the hope of a rememberence of his sister. He in time forgets that and turns his attention torwards the younger children of Korphe, which gives him a new purpose.

  38. I think that it meant he was actually lost up on the mountain but, also he was like confused mentally because of all the deaths in his life. like his sister and dad dieing

    ReplyDelete
  39. i think that the title lost is a good title because he is lost in his mind because hes to exausted because he hasnt eaten or drank in a while. Also because hes lost in the mountains. So also he misses his sister and is still mourning her death.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with Katie. Mortenson was both lost mentally and physically. He was physically lost in the middle of nowhere and this probably affected him mentally, causing him to be mentally lost as well. He was sick, tired, hungry, and had no idea where he was, I think this could affect someone’s brain a little.

  41. I think that Greg Mortenson said that he had got lost becuse when he was climbing the mountian he had not went to the so thats why he had said that he had got lost

    ReplyDelete
  42. think that it meant he was actually lost up on the mountain but, also he was like confused mentally because of all the deaths in his life. like his sister and dad dieing. He also may have been confused and bewildered at where he was on K2 and how he would ever get down alive. He is very lucky he found Korphe or if he didn't it would have probably meant death.

  43. I agree with Hannah. I think Greg was lost mentally physically. He was hungry, thirsty, and he was also sick. Also on the other hand he was facing some tough times because of his sister’s death.

  44. In my own oppinion I think that he met that his thoughts were lost, he didn't know what to do.

  45. i agree with nate I think that Greg Mortenson was lost both physically and mentally. Physically because he didn't know were he was and mentally because he didn't have many valuable resources like shelter water food

  46. when he was lost , he did not know what to do. i agree with hannah to because he was sick, hungery, and very thristy and was very disey to when he was up in K2 the high you go the lesss oxygen you had. so it would be very had if he was diasy to he would not even beable to see striaght

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree that Greg was lost in two different ways. First of all, he wandered around in the woods and went down a wrong path (although it wasn’t even a path). That night he had to stay there alone with only a blanket and a protein bar and an empty water bottle. So physically he was lost in the mountains. Also he had a failed attempt to reach the summit of K2 and so he couldn't place his sister’s necklace on the peek in honor of her. I think he was lost mentally because he couldn't think of what to do next because of his loss of his sister.

  48. I think Greg was lost in two ways first he got lost when he went the wrong way and ended up in the town in Pakistan. And they second way I think we was lost is that he was getting weak and tired because he was running out of food and not getting enough energy of lose of food.

  49. Greg mortenson was lost both physically and mentally. Greg was lost physically because he took he wrong trail and ended up in Pakistan. Greg was lost mentally because he was hungery and sick and he was tired. Greg lost his food so he didnt have energy.

  50. The first line of the story begins "Greg Mortensen was lost." The word lost can have both a literal and figurative meaning. The literal meaning of Greg being "lost" is that Greg was lost and that he didn't know where he was. The figurative meaning of being "lost" was that he was alone somewhere. What I think the author meant was that Greg was lost mentally by wich he was losing hope that he would ever get unlost, and being physically lost so he couldn't get out or find a way free like being lost in a jungle.

  51. I think Greg Mortenson was lost both physically and mentally. Physically because he didn't know were he was and mentally because he didn't have many valuable resources like shelter water food.

  52. I agree with Emilee that Greg Mortensen was both lost physically and mentally. He was physically lost because he took the wrong path to get up to the top of K2. He ended up having to spend the night on the mountain with only a blanket, a bottle of water and a protein bar, like Mikhail said. In this happening he wasn’t able to place his sister’s necklace on the summit of K2 in her memory. He is also mentally lost because he was getting dizzy from the high altitude on the mountain. He was also very thirsty and hungry.

  54. I think that he meant that Greg was litter lay lost. He could not find the right way and he took the wrong path. This took him to a completely different are and that is how he built the schools.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree with Angie. Greg was actually physically lost on the mountain. He couldn't find his partner and he didn't know where he was. He was also kind of lost with his life. Now he knew that he didn't make it to the top of the mountain what was he going to do.

  56. Mr. mortenson was physically lost because he had taken a wrong trail and ended up in a small village called Korphe. he was mentally lost because he had no idea what to do and he was sick, thirsty, hungry, and tired. so yes i do think there was 2 meanings to it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think that there were two meanings to the sentence "Greg Mortonson was lost" he was actually physically lost on the mountain because he took a wrong path and couldn’t find his way, but he was also mentally lost because he knew he couldn’t go any higher and feels like he let his sister down so I do think there is two meaning’s to that sentence

    ReplyDelete
  58. What the author means by this sentence is that Greg was lost in many ways, like everyone said he was lost physically on the mountain and got lost on the trail, and was separated from Scott Darsney. Mentally (as everyone said) he was lost because he hadn't eaten he was tired and he was still grieving about his sister's death He was also spiritually challenged I think, as Holly said. The author could have meant many things or he could have had the reader to think about all three.

  60. Greg, In a physical sense was lost. He was separated from his climbing group and didn't know where he was going. He was also mentaly lost in a way. He felt like he let his sister down since he knew he wasnt going to be able to climb K2.

  61. When I read, "Greg Mortensen was lost”, I thought it meant he was literally lost. But then, when I read on, I found out that Greg was physically lost and mentally lost. He really was lost on the trail, but he also couldn't think straight because he hadn't had food and he was getting cold because he didn't have a thick blanket to sleep on. Greg was separated from his group and had no food and no warmth other than his clothing on him. This caused him to become delirious and get lost mentally.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think what the author meant was that Greg was confused and lost so being on this mountain having no clue where to go just made him even more lost.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The literal meaning is that he was lost on the mountain because he missed the trail he was supposed to be on. The figurative meaning is that he was lost mentally because he was tired, hungry and thirsty and he was weakened by the altitude that he was at and the lack of food.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It was literall because he was lost from the path that he was supossed to be on, and it was figurative because he was lost in his mind. Meaning he was hungry, thirsty, tired, and weak.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree with what serena said. She was right when she said that Greg Mortenson was lost physically because he did get lost more than once. Then he also found his way into Korphe village.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think when the author of three cups of tea (Greg Mortensen) wrote "Greg Mortenson was lost", he had two meanings in mind, he was lost literally and physiologically. The literal meaning is (duh) obvious, he was lost; he went down the wrong trail and got separated from his little group and his belongings. He was also quite lost mentally. He was lost in his mind, the lack of oxygen, food and water, and overall exhaustion made his mind wander. Once he knew he would not get to the top of K2 he felt like a failure, which was quite rare for him. He was lost on what he would do then. He wanted to do something to honor his sister, but was lost (as in clueless) as to what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think that Greg Mortenson was lost both physically and mentally because he didnt know what to do and or where he was.

    ReplyDelete
  68. What the author ment by says "Greg was lost" was the he was physically lost by taking the wrong trail and mentally lost because he tierd, hungry, and thirsty. By him being lost he found his way to Korphe.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree with Erin. Mortenson was lost both mentally and physically. He was lost physically because he had taken the wrong path down K2 and had wandered off 8 miles from where he was supposed to be. He was lost physically because, as Olivia said, he wasn't thinking straight because he had not had food or water for a while and he was cold. That caused him to become delirious and get lost mentally.

  70. The people of Korphe had very poor medical facilities and medicines. Some people in Korphe have died from such poor medical help. But their education was worse. they couldn't even aford a teacher so the kids had to teach themselves without a school. they got up in the morning and met at a place outside where they would draw in the dirt with sticks and learn from each other. they went to school not because they had to, but beacause they wanted to learn. Here in New York and in America, very few people want to go to school but we have to wether we want to or not. are medical is very advanced compared to their's. that is why less people die from sicknesses and illnesses than in places like Pakistan or Afghanistan.

  72. The line "Greg Mortensen was lost" has a figurative and literal meaning. Greg Mortensen was lost physically and mentally. He was physically lost because he took a wrong path while climbing K2 and got separated from his porter. Greg Mortensen was lost mentally because he was sick and weak. But if he hadn’t taken the wrong path he wouldn’t have ended up in Korphe.
